Gilbert Madison Burdette

Gilbert Madison Burdette, 79, of Albany, GA, was born on November 24, 1932 and died November 24, 2011 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 28, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Mathews Funeral Home. Dr. Charlie Bridges and Rev. John McComas will officiate. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery with Military Honors.

A native of Birchwood, TN, Mr. Burdette had resided in Albany, GA since 1964 coming from Oklahoma City, OK. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the Navy from December 7, 1951 to December 5, 1955. Mr. Burdette was employed with Western Union and GTE for forty five years.

Mr. Burdette was a member of Radium Springs Baptist Church and attended the Senior Mens Sunday School Class. He was also a member of South Knoxville Masonic Lodge #769 F&AM, he was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and was a member of Hasan Shriners where he logged over 42,000 miles taking children to the Shriners Hospitals.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-three years, Norma Johnson Burdette of Albany, GA, three daughters, Tina B. Morris (Larry) of Charlotte, NC, Denise B. Reaves (Ed) of Leesburg, GA, Tracy B. Keller (Matthew) of Albany, GA, a brother, Pat F. Burdette (Arlene) of Chattanooga, TN, five grandchildren, Garrett M. Reaves (Corinne) of Baconton, GA, Matthew W. Reaves of Leesburg, GA, Ashley Bagwell (Keith) of Belmont, NC, Katelyn Morris of Charlotte, NC, Madison Keller of Albany, GA, a great-grandchild, Genevieve Wade Reaves of Leesburg, GA and best friend, Nat Carson of Albany, GA.

He was preceded in death by his father, George F. Burdette, his mother, Neva B. Burdette and two brothers, Baxter Burdette and Carson Burdette.

The family will receive friends Sunday, November 27, 2011 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home.
