George S. Bowling

George S. Bowling of Doerun, GA., died Monday, September 28, 2026 at Colquitt Regional Medical Center. Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, October 1, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery in Lakeland, GA. A visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the cemetery. Mr. Frank Bowling will officiate.

George was born in Abanda, AL., to the late Thomas and Mattie Bowling. He served his country in the United States Army. He loved to fish and spent a lot of time at his lake house. George loved his community of Doerun and was a well-known member in the community. He also loved to stay busy working and peddle on different projects. More than anything, he loved spending time with family and friends.

He and his wife, Annette Bowling were major advocates for the Albany Advocacy Resource Center. Their work and dedication helped make the program what it is today. George also served on the board of the Chattahoochee Plantation and was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Annette Bowling, who passed on the same day as George, ten years ago, his son, Al Connell, his grandson Cameron Connell, a brother, James Bowling, and two sisters Alene Crosby and Zelna Metcalf.

Survivors include his granddaughter, Kaycee Hall (Kelly), his great-grandchildren, Allie Gilliard and Harrison Taft, his brothers, Frank Bowling and Russell Bowling, his sisters, Maryanne Hill and Janice Brown, his brother-in-law, Albert Thornton, his sister-in-law, Carolyn Corbitt, a special friend Jeff Campbell (Charla) and several nieces and nephews.

The family will also receive friends Wednesday, September 30, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.
