Gary T. Starr

Gary Thomas Starr, 77, of Albany, GA, passed away February 23, 2026 at The Willson Hospice House. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 26, 2026 at 11:00 am at Mathews Funeral Home. Dr. Jerry Kennedy will officiate. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.

Gary was born in Steubenville, OH on August 9, 1948 to the late Robert and Katherine Starr. Being in a military family, Gary grew up moving to different bases until coming to Albany, GA. He graduated from Dougherty High School in 1966. He continued his education at Georgia Southwestern State University where he graduated and received his post graduate degree.

Gary was an educator for over thirty years and retired in 2008 from Pelham City Middle School. He was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church and the "Fishers of Men" Sunday school class. Gary was a family man. He was in attendance at all of his granddaughters' sporting events and school functions to support his girls who lovingly called him "Papa".

Survivors include his wife Linda H. Starr of Albany, GA, his sons, Chris (Ashley) Starr of Lee County, GA and Evan Starr of Albany, GA, three brothers, David (Dianne) Starr, Robert Starr, and James Starr, and his five granddaughters, Lindsey Katherine Starr, Lucy Claire Starr, Lillian Elise Starr, Molly Rebecca Starr and Mabry Kathryn Starr.

The family will receive friends from 10:00am until 11:00 am on Thursday prior to the service at Mathews Funeral Home.
