Fred Wayne Carter, Sr., 85, of Albany, GA, died March 16, 2018 at his residence. Graveside funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 PM at Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery. Chuck Oates will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM Sunday at Mathews Funeral Home.
Mr. Carter was born on June 9, 1932 in Cairo, GA to John S. and Bessie Darus Carter. He graduated from Cairo High School where he was the Drum Major of the high school band. After high school, Mr. Carter moved to Albany, GA where he had a wholesale cookie business and he married his late wife of sixty four years, Bobbie Oates in 1951.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and after his discharge, he worked in the furniture business. In 1968 he opened Carter Home Furnishings and was engaged in the furniture business for twenty eight years. After his retirement, he began his commercial real estate business and worked for another thirty years. He was a Christian member of Byne Memorial Baptist Church and his favorite Bible Verse was John 3:16.
Survivors include his son, Fred “Wayne” Carter, Jr. and his wife, Debbie of Albany, GA, his grandchildren, Michael D. Carter and his wife, Kendra of Canton, GA and Fred Wayne Carter III and his wife, Madye of Albany, GA, his great-grandchildren, Samantha Carter and Presley Carter both of Canton, GA, a brother, Charles D. Carter and his wife, Mary of Brentwood, TN, his nieces, Paula Norton and her husband, Keith of Albany, GA, Judy Luckey of Panama City Beach, FL and Debbie Shrader and her husband, Terry of Franklin, TN, his nephews, Reid Oates and his wife, Karen of Cobbtown, GA, Chuck Oates and his, wife, Shannon of Mobile, AL and Charles Carter and his wife, Phillis of Decatur, TN.
