Ernest "Ernie" Kennedy

Ernest “Ernie” D. Kennedy, 79, of Dawson passed, Thursday, October 5, 2023 at his home.

His memorial service will be 11:00AM Monday, October 9, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Dawson with military honors. Rev. Currie Spoon and Dr. Emil B. Askew will officiate.

Born in Cuthbert, GA., Ernie spent most of his life in Terrell County. He owned and operated Kennedy Satellite and TV for 43 years. Prior to that he was affiliated with Dawson Motor Company and Laing Implement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dawson, where he served as a Sunday school teacher. Ernie was an avid outdoorsman, he loved being outside, whether it was playing golf, riding his tractor, or feeding his chickens.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was a member of VFW Post 5743, where he served as commander for over 30 years. In 2017, Ernie became a magistrate judge of Terrell County and served on the Chamber of Commerce Board and was a member of the Terrell County Tax Equalization Board.

Ernie is preceded in death by his father, Ernest Clyde Kennedy and his mother, Geraldine “Jerry” Avera Kennedy.  

He is survived by his wife Mary “Mickie” Kennedy of Dawson, daughters April Kennedy Hebert (Michael) of Americus, Stephanie Kennedy Kimbro (Wright) of Athens, grandchildren, Chandler Maxwell (Charlie), Christian Hebert (Cameron), Wright Kimbro, Jr., Kennedy Kimbro, Worth Kimbro, Gatlin Kimbro, and Fendley Kimbro, great-grandson, Liam Maxwell. Sisters include Anne Woodruff (Chuck), Judi Miller, and Mary Alice Johnson (Jimmy). As well as an abundance of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

The family will receive friends and family one hour prior to the service at First Baptist Church of Dawson.
