Edward Eugene “Gene” Mims

Edward Eugene “Gene” Mims, 93, of Albany, GA, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2026, at Willson Hospice House. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 2, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home, with Mr. Ross Powell officiating. Visitation will follow the service.

Born on February 15, 1933, in Birmingham, Alabama, Gene was the son of the late Moses and Pauline Kopp Mims. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, enlisting on January 2, 1952, and serving for 22 years. During his military career, he worked as an aviation electrician at Turner Feild, Us Naval Air Station. Following his retirement from the military, Gene worked for Procter & Gamble (P&G) for many years before eventually retiring.

Gene enjoyed spending time in his garden, tending to his vegetables, and taking pride in watching them grow. He also had a love for fishing. Gene appreciated the simple pleasures of life and found happiness in the things he loved.In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Mims, and his son, Jonathan Mims.Survivors include his children, Rebecca (Carl) Kanyuck of Hollister, California, and Robert Mims of Columbus, Georgia; his daughter-in-law, Meg Mims of Albany, Georgia; his grandchildren, Kim Kanyuck, Kyle Kanyuck, and Robert Mims; and six great-grandchildren.
