Edward Paul "Ed" Duffy, Sr.

Ed was born on August 27, 1932 to Edward and Julia Duffy in Lynn, MA.  He grew up there, graduated from St. Mary’s High School and immediately joined the United States Air Force.  After serving in Japan, Ed was transferred to Turner Air Force Base in Albany, GA.  There he met his future wife, Janie Sheffield, they married and he spent the rest of his life in the Albany-Leesburg area.

Ed was employed with Mckesson Wine and Spirits Company for thirty years before retiring. After retirement, Ed and his son, Paul owned and operated The Winery for fourteen years.  Ed served on the Lee County Commission for twelve years and for several of those years served as Chairman. While serving as Lee County commissioner, Ed's innovational spirit was responsible for bringing  many beneficial changes to Lee County. He was a member of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church and enjoyed the Creek and spending time at his farm.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Janie Sheffield Duffy.

Survivors include the last surviving sibling Leonard Duffy, of Ipswich, MA,  his children, Paul (Brenda) Duffy of Terrell County, GA and Terri Duffy Kerrey of Lee County, GA,  his grandchildren, Kari Duffy (Rod), Brook (Jeremy) House of Dallas, TX, Ryan (Mason) Duffy of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Kaley (Micah) Cardin all of Albany, GA, Haley Kerrey (Taylor) Withers and Morgan Kerrey (Dustin) all of Charlotte, NC, his great-grandchildren, Berklie Duffy, Henley Duffy, Seth Duffy, Jace House, Cooper Cardin, Navy Ferrell and Noa Ferrell.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 6:00 pm before the service at Mathews Funeral Home.
