Edith Merle Cannon, 82, of Albany, passed away at the Willson Hospice House on April 3, 2024 with family by her side
Her funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Monday April 8, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Putney with Rev. Danny Evans officiating. Interment will be at 3:00 PM, Monday, April 8, 2024 at Roberts Cemetery in Miller County.
Merle was born May 27, 1941 to Lewis and Bronnie Mae White Granger was one of seven children and lived in Blakely, Georgia.
On August 11, 1957, she married Houston Ray Cannon, Sr. and they celebrated sixty-five years of blessed marriage together and they had three children.
After moving to Albany, she worked with Albany Auto Auction where she retired in 2009.
Her love of the Lord showed in her love for her family, friends, her church and church family and attended First Baptist Church of Putney. Merle enjoyed 3 Squares with her husband and friends where she will be fondly remembered as Nana.
She enjoyed shopping with her two daughters and eating out with her son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter and had to get her weekly dose of having her hair done by her favorite beautician.
Merle was preceded in death by her husband, Houston “Ray” Cannon, Sr. parents, brothers Jimmy, Tommy, Robert and Harvey Granger and sister, Vivian Roberts.
Survivors include her daughters, Pamela Cannon Long (Roger), Norma Jean Evans (Daniel), son Houston Ray Cannon, Jr. (Deann), grandchildren, Aaron J. Wilson, Justin R. Wilson, Christopher A. Evans, Jeremy D. Evans, Kristina D. Cannon, Holly Barfield and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Eddie R. Granger and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 10:00 to 11:00 AM, Monday, April 8, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Putney.
