Donald L. "Don" Gray

Donald L. “Don” Gray, 92, (MGST, USAF Ret.) died October 28, 2022 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 am at Mathews Funeral Home.  Mr. George “Smitty” Johnson will officiate.  Interment will follow at 12:00 pm at Andersonville National Cemetery with Military Honors.

Don was born at home in Lanett, AL on October 29, 1929 to Denson and Edith Gray.  He joined the United States Air Force and served for twenty years before retiring in 1968.  After his retirement, Don went to work with Sears and Roebuck and retired after 25 years. Don also volunteered building wheelchair ramps with Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Antoinette “Toni” Gray.

Don was a member of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church, The Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #30 and The Loyal Order of the Moose, # 1285.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Billy, Charles and Harrold.

Survivors include his children, Jerry (Elaine) Gray of Sylvester, GA and Donna Gray of Albany, GA, his sister, Elizabeth “Sunny” Morris of West Point, GA, his grandchildren, Shaundra Sokolowski of Sylvester, GA and Bryan (Stacy) Gray of Fargo, GA and his great-grandchildren, Coy Bell, Alexia Sokolowski, Dawsan Gray and Kiley Gray.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Mathews Funeral Home.
