Daniel James Papp

Daniel James Papp, 85, of Leesburg, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 20, 2025. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 1, at 11:00 am at Mathews Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Roy Cook will officiate. Interment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Papp was born in Pennsylvania, and served proudly in the United States Marine Corps for twenty years, achieving the rank of Gunnery Sergeant, with multiple medals and commendations. He later joined the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Department, from which he retired after twenty-three years of distinguished service. Dedicated to his Christian faith, he was a member of Gillionville Baptist Church in Albany. He was a man of honor in every respect, and will be remembered by his loved ones for his dry sense of humor, acute sense of justice, and his steadfast, sacrificial devotion to those he loved.

Mr. Papp was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Papp and Thelma Marie Wallace Papp, as well as his wife, Linda Sammons Papp.

Survivors include his son, Daniel James Papp, Jr. (Donna) of Nitro, West Virginia, his daughter, Tammy Fletcher of Waterford, Connecticut, and his step-son, Tony Sammons (Beth-Anne) of Leesburg, Georgia. He leaves behind four loving grandchildren: Mallory Sammons Moran (Cody), Brynn Sammons, Taylor Sammons, and Kaleigh Sammons, as well as one great-granddaughter, Genevieve Moran.

The family will receive friends Monday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Mathews Funeral Home.
