Bonnie Jean Asmus of Leesburg, Georgia, lost her battle with small cell lung cancer at the age of 63 and passed away peacefully at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. Bonnie was a beloved presence to all who knew her and will be remembered for her strength, love, and the deep care she had for her family and friends. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know and love her.
Bonnie grew up in Albany, Georgia, and attended Albany High School. Upon graduating, she worked as a supervisor at Flint River Textiles, known locally as the Cotton Mill. She was a talented painter and furniture refinisher, skills that reflected both her creativity and patience.
Her greatest joys in life included fishing, camping, dancing, cooking, and spending cherished time with her family—especially celebrating birthdays and holidays together. Bonnie was known for her kind and giving spirit, as well as her fun-loving sense of humor that could light up any room.
Bonnie was preceded in death by special loved ones Dave Craft, Ashley Hughes, Alfred “Al” Asmus, and Wayne Cox.
She is survived by her son, Gordon Howard “Bo” Hughes (Anna); her daughter, Sonya Jean Hughes; her grandchildren, Chance Chambers (Kylie), Abbagail Hughes (Landon), and Paisley Hughes; and her great-grandchildren, Oaklynn Chambers and Kashton Chambers. She is also survived by her parents, Charles “Chuck” and Earnestine Hurley; her siblings, Judy Stanfield, Valerie Cox, Michael “Mike” Craft (Debbie), and Pam Rogers (Woody); as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of Leesburg, Georgia.
A private funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Crown Hill Cemetery & Mausoleum Chapel for immediate family only. The family will receive visitors on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Bonnie’s residence, located at 741 Middle Road South, Leesburg, Georgia 31763, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Those wishing to honor Bonnie’s memory may send flowers to Crown Hill Cemetery & Mausoleum or make memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
