Billy Buchanan "Bill" Slocumb, Jr.

Billy (Bill) Buchanan Slocumb, Jr. passed away on January 28, 2026, at his home in Moultrie, Georgia. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Doerun Cemetery in Doerun, Georgia.

Bill was born May 4, 1956, to the late Virginia Slocumb Welfare and Judge Bill Slocumb. He is survived by his son, Billy (Trey) Buchanan Slocumb III (Leilani); grandchildren, Garrett, Claire, Braylon and Billy (Cannon) Buchanan IV; sisters, Vicki Slocumb Durham (Danny), Cindy Slocumb Duke-DeMott, and Mary Slocumb Gillespie and nieces and nephews.

Raised in small town Doerun, Bill was a member of Doerun High School’s Class of 1974, where he played basketball and ran track. He graduated from Valdosta State University with a degree Criminal Justice and was a member of Delta Chi fraternity. Bill grew up as a member of Doerun Baptist Church and more recently was a member of Journey Church in Evans, Georgia. He loved the Lord and placed his total faith in Him.

Upon retirement Bill moved back to Moultrie to be close to his son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. He often said this move was the best decision of his life, enabling him to spend much more time with his family. Bill felt his son, Trey, was his greatest accomplishment. He enjoyed being “Poppa” to his grandchildren. As only a Southwest Georgia boy could, Bill loved the outdoors. His passion for hunting and fishing was instilled in him at an early age by his Daddy and Bill passed that same passion down to Trey.

In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorials in memory of Bill Slocumb to The Edwards Cancer Center, 3131 South Main Street, Moultrie, Georgia 31768.
