Betty Jean Everson

Betty Jean Mock Everson, 86, peacefully passed away Friday March 8, 2024 at Willson Hospice House. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at 3:00 pm at Mathews Funeral Home.   Rev. Norman Denney will officiate. Interment will follow at Floral Memory Gardens.

Betty was born on November 29, 1937 in Miller County Georgia to the late Lee Roy Mock and Leona Donley Mock. She grew up in Early County and graduated in 1955 from Miller County High School.  After graduation she moved to Albany, GA where she was employed by Southern Bell. She met and married Ronald Dennis (Buddy) Everson in 1956 and they were married fifty-four years until his passing in 2010.

Buddy and Betty had three children, Lisa, Ronnie and Gary.  She was involved in every aspect of their lives, and encouraged them to always do their very best in anything they did. Betty was a magnificent cook, known for her dressing at Thanksgiving and church gatherings.  She made cooking appear simple, but everyone knew her meals were made with love.  She always baked Lisa’s children a butternut cake for special occasions and when they went on vacation.  Ronnie then had two sons and she adored baking their special treats for their birthdays.  Gary, her youngest son, was killed in an accident before he had children.

Betty was also employed by Palmyra Nursing Home and Kings Manor where she retired at age seventy to care for her husband in his battle with cancer. Betty loved her family, but first and foremost she loved her Lord Jesus Christ.  She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church from 1962 until its closing in 2022.  She was member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class where she had many close Sisters in Christ.  She most recently attended Lakeside Baptist Church.

She is survived by two children, Lisa Everson Jenkins (Charles) and Ronald Dennis Everson (Cheryl), eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 12, 2024 from 2:00 pm until funeral hour at Mathews Funeral Home.

We would like to thank the staff at Phoebe Hospice and Willson Hospice House for their compassionate care and support during our time of loss and Heaven’s gain.  She will be greatly missed on earth, but has gained the crown we as Christians look forward to receiving someday.
