Benjamin Ned Thompson, 46, of Leesburg, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Willson Hospice House, with his family by his side. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. at Mathews Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Leesburg Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Benjamin was born in Rochester, Michigan, on April 10, 1980, to Bryan and Barbara Thompson. He earned his master’s degree in Instructional Technology from Kennesaw State University and dedicated his career to special education. He served as an educator in Lamar County and Sumter County before teaching Special Education at Lee County High School.
Benjamin was passionate about his students and enjoyed being involved in the Lee County High School E-Sports team, where he served as a head coach. He also had a love for the theater and was actively involved with Theatre Albany. He was especially known and loved for his portrayal of the Beast in the production of Beauty and the Beast.
A proud Eagle Scout and member of the Order of the Arrow, Benjamin valued service, leadership, and community. Above all, he treasured his family and the time he spent with those he loved.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Renee Thompson; his daughter, Elizabeth Thompson, both of Lee County; his parents, Bryan and Barbara Thompson of Oglethorpe, Georgia; and his brother, Brandon Thompson of Oglethorpe, Georgia.
He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Madelyn Thompson, Wesley Thompson, Abigail Thompson, Alora Thompson, Madison Rossow, and Lily Rossow; his brother-in-law, Jim “Bubba” Thompson, Jr., of Greenwood, Wisconsin; and his sister-in-law, Tracy Rossow (Carl) of Greenwood, Wisconsin.
