Benjamin Taylor Smith, Sr

Benjamin T. Smith, Sr, 73, of Albany, GA died April 8, 2011 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at Philema Road Baptist Church. Rev. Dan Harris will officiate. Interment will follow in Thundering Springs Cemetery.

Mr. Smith was born to the late William Harwick and Quida Bell Smith and was a native and lifelong resident of Albany, GA. He was a US Navy veteran and was engaged in the salvage business. With a friendly disposition, he was known and well liked throughout the community and was a father figure to many of his son's friends. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Smith and two sisters, Bessie Knight and Raynell Hubble.

Survivors include his companion of seventeen years, Anita Howell of Albany, GA, two sons, Benjamin T. (Benny) Smith, Jr. and his wife, Tracy of Lee County, GA and Michael Benjamin Smith and his wife, Amy Jo of Great Falls, MT, a brother, Danny Smith and his wife, Charlie Mae of Albany, GA, a sister, Peggy Mercer and her husband, Mack of Albany, GA, a sister-in-law, Paula Smith of Albany, GA, a brother-in-law, Thad Knight of Lee County, GA, four grandchildren , Gabriel Compton and Shilo Compton both of Spokane, WA, Justin Taylor Smith and his wife, Stephanie of Albany, GA and Benjamin Jacob Smith of Lee County, GA and four great-grandsons, Brodyn Compton, Deegan Compton, Javin Michaelson and Gatlin Michaelson.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Philema Road Baptist Church.

The family is at the residence of Benny and Tracy Smith, 559 Flowing Well Road, Albany, GA, 31763.
