Ann Barfield Chapman, 77, formerly of Valdosta, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2026, in Albany, Georgia.
Born in Hahira, Georgia, on May 16, 1949, Ann was the daughter of the late Vernon Escholl “V.E.” and Louelle Barfield and the younger sister of the late Carolyn Barfield Irby. In 1967, she was a proud member of the first graduating class of Lowndes High School following the consolidation of Hahira High School and the original Lowndes County High School.
After high school, Ann attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton before transferring to Valdosta State College, where she met the love of her life, Fred Chapman. Fred and Ann were married on October 17, 1970. Their marriage remained a beautiful picture of love, grace, and commitment through all of life's seasons.
Over the course of her career, Ann served thousands of people as a dedicated customer service representative in the insurance industry. More importantly, Ann was a devoted mother whose children were profoundly shaped by her tender care. Through her own journey of recovery, she became a steadfast AA sponsor, embodying grace, accountability, and unconditional love as she walked alongside other women navigating addiction. Ann’s most enduring legacy is that she humbly relied on Jesus to help her live in true freedom.
Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fred; her parents, V.E. and Louelle Barfield; and her sister, Carolyn Irby.
She is survived by her son, Carter Sean Chapman; her daughter, Holly Chapman Strickland; seven grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
