Albert Scardino

Albert “Al" Scardino, 94, died Thursday, July 13, 2023, at his home in Albany.

His memorial service will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 12, 2023, in the Chapel at Sherwood Baptist Church. 

Born July 3, 1929, in Houston, TX, to Rose and Felix Scardino, Al grew up helping in the family grocery store. He served in radio intelligence in the US Air Force during the Korean War and graduated from Notre Dame with a counseling degree. Over the years, Dr. Scardino served as director of the ARC in Texas, California, and Colorado before taking a position as headmaster of Dayspring Christian School in Greeley, CO.  After completing an internship at Grace Fellowship International to become a Christ-centered Biblical counselor, Al went on to direct the counseling center at First Baptist Church Atlanta and was instrumental in starting a lay counseling ministry, training and overseeing hundreds of lay counselors in his 23 years before retiring from First Baptist.  A man of many interests, Al was a painter, wood worker, musician, storyteller, and he loved a good joke. Al was a new creation in Christ and lived to point others to His saving grace. He loved people well and was a counselor and friend to many. 

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Shirley Scardino, Albany, sons Victor Leuci (Mary), Columbia, MO, and Mark Scardino (Karma), Albany, grandchildren, Lena Leuci, Sammy Scardino, Marci Scardino, Sophi Scardino, Maggi Scardino, and brother, Felix Scardino (Patsy), Houston, TX.

In lieu of flowers please make memorials to “Meet the Need” at Sherwood Baptist Church, 2201 Whispering Pines Rd. Albany, GA 31707.
