Sadie Daughety

Sadie McWhirter Daughety, 84, formerly of Nashville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2021 at the home of her son, John Robert Daughety in Lee County, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother John Henry (Bud) McWhirter, beloved husband Tom Daughety, and step-son Steve Daughety.

To say that Sadie was a remarkable woman is an understatement. She was an exceptional mother, grandmother, wife, and aunt. She loved with her whole heart and never missed an opportunity to remind her family of the love she had for them. She was full of grace and always strived to leave this world better than she found it. In her distinguished professional life, she worked as a copy writer for WTVD television, and until the end of her life she talked about her amazing experiences in that job and the valuable friendships she made there. In keeping with her value of and talent for serving others, she then became the area director for the American Lung Association in Eastern North Carolina, helping raise funds for the treatment of lung disease. Her tenacity and strong desire to help others live better lives served her well in that role, and her strong work ethic and the partnerships she created led to significant progress in lung heath in that area and throughout the country. In retirement she worked with the Nash County Guardian Ad Litem program through which she advocated for abused and neglected children. She served the children of Nash County with a ferocity and passion that literally created life-changing circumstances for children who otherwise would not have had voices or means to effect such change.

She is survived by her son John and his wife Catherine, step-son David, grandchildren Tad, Sachi, David, Adam, Brandi, Ross, Karoline, and Kasey, Karlie, and two great grandchildren, Jax and Henry.

Sadie leaves behind many dear friends who remember her vivid spirit, her love of the arts and how much she enjoyed spirited conversation. She was a rare, gentle lady who will be sorely missed, but who will live on in each life she touched.

If you are so inclined, please consider making a donation in her memory to the American Lung Association, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, or consider volunteering as a Guardian ad Litem in your community.
