Terry Malcolm Lewis of Albany died May 1, 2019, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. He was 64.
Terry was born August 23, 1954, in Tuscaloosa, AL, to Wally and Anne (Fields) Lewis. After graduating from Tuscaloosa High School in 1972 and serving in the Marines, Terry studied journalism at the University of Alabama. He worked as sports editor in the early 1980s for the Alexander City Outlook, where he won several Alabama Press Association awards. He moved to Albany in 1985 to work as a sportswriter for The Albany Herald.
In 1990, he left the Herald to form Lewis Publishing and went on to be the first web site developer in the area. He returned to the Herald in 2008 as a news reporter and education writer.
Terry is preceded in death by his mother, Anne, and his brother, Joe Lewis. He is survived by his children, Troy and Sarah Lewis, his father, Wally, and his brother, Stewart (Bridgette) Lewis of Lebanon, TN. Phyllis McCoy Lightle is the mother of his children.
A memorial service honoring Terry's life will be held on Saturday, May 11 at Mathews Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. and the service at 2 p.m.
