John Edward Emmons (SSgt, USAF, Ret.) 89, of Lee County, GA, died July 7, 2018 at Lee County Health Care. Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Leesburg Cemetery. Father Thomas Raines will officiate. The United States Air Force and the American Legion Post # 30 will provide Military Honors.
A native of Clearwater, SC, Mr. Emmons graduated from LBC High School and joined the United States Navy serving during the Korean Conflict and then joined the United States Air Force. He served in Vietnam and retired after twenty years with his last station being at Turner Field. Mr. Emmons moved to Lee County in 1997 and was employed with Firestone Tire and Rubber Company before retiring after eighteen years. He was also employed with Chehaw Park and Darton College. He was a former member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and was a founding member of St. Alban’s Anglican Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Margie Emmons of Lee County, GA, his children, Andy Emmons and his wife, Cathy of Albany, GA, Brian Emmons and his wife, Shelia of Macon, GA and Nancy Moye and her husband, Steve of Lee County, GA, seven grandchildren, Jason Emmons of St. Augustine, FL, Chanda Emmons of Leesburg, GA, Georgia Emmons of Macon, GA, Daniel Emmons of Macon, GA, Miranda Gibson of Warner Robins, GA, Bryce Moye and Grason Moye both of Leesburg, GA. and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM at Mathews Funeral Home.
