Date of Birth: | February 3, 1932 | | Date of Death: | July 21, 2010 | | Obituary: | Eric “Rab” Dalton Newell, 78, of Albany, GA died Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Palmyra Nursing Home. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 AM at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Sam Cook will officiate. Interment will follow in Thundering Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Dan Newell, Ricky Newell, Stevie Newell, Marty Newell, Lawson Cox and Jeff Paramore will serve as active pallbearers and Russell Newell, Gene Newell, Tony Newell, Barry Higgs, Terry Henderson will serve as honorary pallbearers.
A native of Worth County, GA, born to the late Dan and Janie McDonald Newell, Mr. Newell had resided in Albany since 1957. Mr. Newell, formerly employed with Knight’s Electric, was a self employed licensed electrical contractor for over forty years and conducted business throughout Southwest Georgia. He was a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Newell was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Barfield Newell, a daughter, Charlotte Hurst, a sister Vivian Newell Hall and a brother, Charles L. Newell.
Survivors include his children, Polly Newell Miller and her husband Chuck of Iron City, GA, Debra Newell Monroe of Leesburg, GA and Roger Newell of Iron City, GA, three brothers, Wendell Newell and his wife Jane of Worth County, GA, Elvis Newell of Albany, GA and Roy Newell and his wife Sandra of Mitchell County, GA, five sisters, Ferrell Higgs and her husband, Clyde of Crystal River, FL, Doris Henderson of Albany, GA, Carol Cox and her husband, Charles of Worth County, GA and Faye Calhoun and her husband, Sammy, of Worth County, GA, twelve grandchildren, Michelle Chafin (Randy), April Davis (Stacy), Ericka Adams (Nick), Joey Miller (Jessica), Robert Bruner, Bryan Bruner, Britt Bruner (Katie), Kelly Newell, Kasie Stewart (Dustin), Kristen Newell, Kyle Newell, Brandi Baggett, sixteen great-grandchildren, Taylor Peterman, Chase Peterman, Morgan Davis, Landon Davis, Anna Belle Adams, Beau Adams, Scharlie Bruner, Nick Bruner, Matthew Bruner, Christian Bruner, Emily Bruner, Conner Price, Dakota Bruner, Dakota Stewart, Drake Stewart and Dean Stewart.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home.
