Leon Jackson (Jackie) Hambric, JR, 62, of 156 Winnstead Drive, Leesburg, GA, died June 5, 2010 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 P.M. at Gillionville Baptist Church. Pastor Tony Haefs will officiate. Interment will follow in Gordon Cemetery in Colquitt, GA. Born to the late Leon Jackson Hambric, SR, and Hazel Wadsworth, Jackie was a native and lifelong resident of Albany. He was a 1965 graduate of Albany High School and attended Georgia Southwestern College. Jackie was co-owner of the Hambric Welding Company. Jackie was an avid outdoorsman, but his greatest love was bass fishing. He enjoyed competing in bass tournaments and some of his accomplishments included: winning the National Bass Association World Championship in 1977 on the Saint John River, two-time winner of the Hank Parker Opening on Lake Seminole (one in 1988 and one in 1990, for which he received new Ranger boats). He also won six other new bass boats in other bass tournaments. He also received many Angler of the year awards and many other tournament titles. In the later years, he received many honors and titles while fishing with his son. Survivors include his wife, Betty Jane (B.J.) Hambric of Leesburg, GA, a son, Brad Hambric of Tifton, GA, a daughter, Shelley Hambric Shiver and her husband, Will of Leesburg, GA, a grandson, William Kemp Shiver and a brother, William Richard (Ricky) and his wife, Elaine of Leesburg, GA. The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. Monday (Today) at Mathews Funeral Home.
